REACH is a regulation of the European Union adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks of chemical substances, while at the same time stimulating the competitiveness of the European chemical industry. The regulation also promotes alternative methods for assessing the dangers that substances entail in order to reduce the number of tests carried out on animals.
The Reach regulation applies to all chemical substances: not only those used in industrial processes, therefore, but also those that are used daily, giving companies the burden of proof, which according to the regulation must identify and manage the risks related to substances that produce and sell in the European Union, demonstrating to ECHA how these substances can be used without risk and inform users of risk management measures.
